EURO, RAP, GFS models are discounted as they don't show local flow

Canadian models are just as accurate but are discounted due to accessibility concerns

The NMB model is accurate with the HRRR to 18 hrs, anything later it defers to global models but does not state this, thus giving a false sense of accuracy - it is not referenced...

Local wind flow studies have no bearing as gusts far exceeded steady state speed

Wind force varies with temperature air density and altitude but a normal day sea level unit is used

Wind force acts and reacts on all surfaces: rope, carrier, passenger, tower, grip

Carrier swing is directly related to center of mass, and grip anti-swing devices

The haulrope stays in the sheave groove by: rope tension, rope weight, carrier weight, cord angle, other span loadings, passengers

The sides and bottom of the sheave liner groove captures the total reaction

Wind force ultimately first reacts on the sheave groove, the flat sheave liner then flange, this is complicated by rotation and speed of rotation

Charts and photos not produced by SORT are listed in references

Charts and photos have been clarified and resized for online use

======================================

This report does not cover: carrier swing dynamics, catenary curve, force diagrams, local terrain flow, passenger effect, profile angle, rope tension factors, rope twist, sheave liner wear, span swing characteristics, tower load, wind pressure correction factors, wind direction correction factors – it is assumed a combination of factors are well past their limits when a rope derails…
